Don’t send mixed messages with your actions and thoughts. Improve non-verbal communication and improve your life and improve relationships!
Items that create negative emotions stifle our ability to attract greater abundance into our lives. Â They also send extremely confusing messages about what we truly want.
For many, it is human nature to hold onto sentiment, even at the risk of sending confusing messages to the world. For example, let’s say you have gone from a size eighteen to an eight – why would you keep clothes that are too big unless you had a conscious, or sub-conscious, fear that you would gain the weight back?
Perhaps you are in a healthy relationship, and yet, you still have love letters from an old fling – what message does that send out? The answer, of course, being that you somehow are not fully able to give your heart to your new love.
Improve relationships and every area of your life by being consistent in thought and action.
Many people hold onto items that send mixed messages. What they may not fully realize is that all items in our home are a catalyst for some form of energy. If this sounds odd, consider a piece of music that brings back a memory for you. For me, if I hear Wham’s Careless Whisper, I am immediately transported back to high school circa 1980’s, slow dancing in our school gym. The B-52’s Love Shack reminds me of driving down Parkedale Avenue with a group of girls from high school, belting out the song at the top of our lungs. Other songs remind me of lost friendships, heartbreak and even the death of a dear friend. Music is a powerful inducer of both good and bad memories.
Are you limiting your ability to attract greater abundance?
The same holds true of objects in our surroundings. If you have an old photo from a relationship gone wrong, every time you see that picture you will feel the emotions associated with that person. If you have an award from a job that you were subsequently let go from, you will look at that and feel both pride and anger at the same time. Any object that elicits a negative emotion creates confusion, and this confusion can ultimately create stress, anxiety and even chaos. It also prevents your ability to attract greater abundance you want and deserve!
Here are several examples of sending confusing messages, garnered from my students:
- Keeping marketing materials from old businesses even though you are in a new business.
- Holding onto a vase, or some other decorative item, given as a gift by someone who subsequently hurt you.
- An email inbox with thousands of old emails that have gone unanswered.
- A wedding dress for a wedding that never happened.
- Jewelry from a partner that cheated and the relationship ended.
- A book about a subject that was never going to be read.
- Exercise equipment that no longer worked.
- Bins of children’s clothing even though the person was finished having kids.
- Passwords that have an associated meaning that feels negative.
Items that create negative emotions stifle our ability to attract greater abundance into our lives; they also send extremely confusing messages about what we truly want. Having traveled to remote parts of Guatemala, Africa, and Cambodia, witnessing people who are happy with much less, I can tell you first hand that many people outside of the developing world are living with large amounts of excess, lives rife with massive amounts of surplus that would be graciously welcomed at the local shelter, single mom’s group, or friends going through tough times.
One of my students, Nicole, a talented woman with a PhD, lived with extreme excess. Surrounded by clothes of varying sizes that she no longer wore, she knew that she needed to do something about it but couldn’t muster the energy to get it done. Finally, at my urging, she took action and purged out bags and bins. Nicole had been out of work for a while and was having difficulty paying her bills. Within days of getting rid of her excess, she received a job offer, one that would allow her to work from home at a salary greater than she expected.
Nicole’s story is not unique. This happens time and again with my students.  I would encourage you to release your excess so that you, too, can have waves of good things chase you down. It’s time for you to attract greater abundance now!
