Best-Selling Author Susan Sly reveals 5 things you shouldn’t do when negotiating a raise in salary for yourself with your current employer.
Brockville, Ontario — Feb. 24, 2016— Best-selling author, speaker, and entrepreneur Susan Sly recently published a new article, “Salary Raise Negotiation Mistakes – 5 Things You Should Never Do.” In the article, Susan addresses the apprehension many people have when approaching their boss for a raise and some key mistakes to avoid to help ensure the best possible outcome for these conversations.
One specific “mistake” she covers is lack of preparation. Susan states, “It’s not enough to just think you deserve more—even if you do make less than others in your profession with similar experience or expertise. And it’s not enough to tell your boss what you will do if given a pay increase. You need to be able to demonstrate how you have helped improve the company – either in terms of leads, sales, revenue, savings, etc. – while in your current position. In other words, what have you accomplished to help better the position of the company, through the performance of your specific duties? This becomes the basis of your justification for an increase in pay.”
