Meet this week’s champion Gail W. She has been able to take control of the never ending piles of documents and files on her desk and in her office. Using the principles of OYL, she has become an empowered CEO and has found life to be more productive and peaceful. We are all so proud of these life changing events. Keep up the great work.
Before taking Susan’s OYL Course, I was working in a minefield of unorganized, outdated, and 97% unnecessary documents and files. The desk’s surface was constantly being cluttered with the new addition of papers that I would place in piles to make room for working space. I classified things as: to be done and not opened, opened and to be tended to, and the final pile would consist of things that I had looked at.. and needed to be filed. This pile was just a rearrangement of the former two piles. It was constant reshuffling and a waste of time, providing no positive outcome.
I was a hamster on the treadmill, never actually advancing anywhere. My file drawers were brimming with outdated and unnecessary memorabilia, that for some reason I believed was important. It was a traffic jam of ideas and it created bedlam and anxiety for me every time I sat down to work.
Since, my desk drawers have been emptied. There are files that are color coded, and two file drawers, one for home expenses and personal financial items and the other dedicated to my business. I have developed the old mindset that I always employed when sailing… everything has a place. I only address things once, long enough to perform the task necessary, and then either shred the document or file it.
Keeping a color coded schedule is the best idea ever, and having my desk area organized every night prepares me for the mornings tasks. I can begin clear-headed and set for production.
I am extremely grateful for all that I have been able to learn about running a business as a CEO. Although I owned and ran business outside of my house for 15 years, I had an office manager who organized things for me.
I have a new found appreciation for all that she did and now have the skill and knowledge base to draw upon in keeping my corporation operating efficiently. I am keenly aware of the resources, tools and habits for a smooth running office area that is an enjoyable space to work. This has lead to much peace and production.
God bless you Susan Sly for your wonderful class and sharing of your knowledge in such a fun and comprehensive manner. You have saved me so much time and money, and put a big smile on this home based CEO’s face!
